New Logo for a CPA Government Auditing firm

This logo was a tough one since the client's main notes from the kickoff meeting was "I don't know what I want until I see it"... every designer's dream. The company did have a good history of over 40 years of experience and 5 main pillars that their employees adhered to. Pillars also work for government related activities so that was the main theme I went with. I wanted them to stick out against their competitors but still give a traditional feel since they are a well-established company.
This was their starting point and what they had been using prior:

Their office branding went totally against this as there was no red in sight. They wanted to stray from this to more of a cool-toned blue palette. Attached below are the steps I took to get to 6 new logo concepts to present to the client.
